Will These External Factors Affect Super Bowl LVIII?

This Sunday, February 11, 2024, the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, will face off against the San Francisco 49ers to compete for the prestigious Super Bowl title.

Following their 17-10 win against the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Championship title, the Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl, marking their fourth time appearing in the acclaimed match within the last five years. While the 49ers will face the defending Super Bowl champions, the San Francisco franchise is no stranger to the prestigious game. In their 19 appearances in the NFL Playoffs, the 49ers have clinched seven NFC Championships and five Super Bowl titles.

While the Super Bowl is one of the most highly contested games each year in American sports, this year’s game is experiencing significant press surrounding significant others and family members of this year’s competitors. Let’s look at some of this press and how it can affect the Super Bowl and those competing in it.

Patrick Mahomes Sr.-

This past Saturday night in Tyler, Texas, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was arrested on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. This is not the 53-year-old’s first time facing a charge of this sort, as he was charged with the same misdemeanour in Texas in 2018. At the time, he pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced to 40 days in prison.

Saturday night’s charge is for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More and according to Texas state law, if convicted, Mahomes Sr. can face up to 10 years in prison. Since this is not his first incident of being charged with a DWI, a bond has been set for $10,000.

If Mahomes Sr. is guilty of this charge, there is a good chance he will miss Super Bowl LVIII, where his son will start and compete against the San Francisco 49ers.

While this is not his first offense, if Mahomes Sr. is arrested, it will be interesting to see if there remains negative press surrounding his son Patrick and how the star quarterback will perform in Sunday’s big game. As Mahomes already faces stress about clinching the Super Bowl title, the quarterback does not need any added stress leading up to the game.

Kristin Juszczyk-

Kristin Juszczyk, wife of San Francisco 49ers’ fullback Kyle Juszczyk, has been making headlines recently for the game-day looks that she has designed. The 29-year-old began pursuing her fashion career after Kyle left the Baltimore Ravens and signed with the 49ers in 2017.

Kristin’s designs garnered significant attention after Taylor Swift sported a puffer jacket designed by Juszczyk to a Chiefs game last month, which went viral. The puffer includes the number 87 that is worn by Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce. Not only did Swift sport a Kristin Juszczyk Designs puffer jacket, but Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, matched the singer that night.

Kristin has designed game-day outfits for some of Kyle’s teammates on the 49ers, and she even created a jacket for acclaimed actor Taylor Lautner that got delivered to him on the field for the Lions’ NFL Wild Card Round game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Following her immense media attention, Juszczyk has signed a licensing agreement with the NFL, allowing the fullback’s wife to use the NFL logo on her designs.

Juszczyk had some tricks up her sleeve at the 49ers NFC Championship game against the Detroit Lions, as she manifested a win for her husband’s team. The 29-year-old sported a design of hers at the NFC title game, and once the 49ers clinched their 34-31 win against the Lions, the fashion designer rolled up her sleeves to show that she embroidered the words “Super Bowl Bound” into her outfit.

The 29-year-old has teased some of her Super Bowl designs on her social media accounts, and fans are excited to see what the designer has come up with. Fans also question if Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes will wear any Kristin Juszczyk Designs as they support the 49ers rival in Sunday’s big game. Despite that, Swift and Mahomes could garner further attention to the 29-year-old’s game-day designs and maybe even help the aspiring designer secure another deal. Can Kristin Juszczyk manifest another win for her husband’s team this Sunday through her famous designs?

Taylor Swift-

On September 24, 2023, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce broke the internet after Swift was spotted cheering on her alleged boyfriend at the time at the Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears. Since that game, the two have confirmed their relationship, and fans have seen the legendary singer attend 12 of her boyfriend’s games throughout the 2023-24 regular season and postseason.

While Swift and Kelce have made numerous headlines, last night, the Eras Tour singer made headlines of her own following the 2024 Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, Swift attended the Grammys without her beau, as the Chiefs’ tight end has an intensive training schedule leading up to Sunday’s big game.

Despite the absence of her boyfriend, Swift attended the Grammys and made history after receiving the Album of the Year award for her 2022 album “Midnights.” Taylor Swift made history as she was the first performer to receive the acclaimed Grammy award on four separate occasions.

Not only did Swift leave the awards ceremony with one additional Grammy, but she also shocked fans when she announced earlier in the ceremony that she would be releasing her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department” this April.

With all of Swift’s fans, this year’s Super Bowl is expected to be the largest audience in years as Swifties and fans alike are tuning into the game now that the Eras Tour signer will be in attendance.

As a result of this, companies such as e.l.f. Cosmetics and L’Oreal makeup brand NYX have bought Super Bowl ads for the first time, as they anticipate a greater female audience this year. Additionally, after an 18-year hiatus, Dove Body Wash is returning to the Super Bowl commercials, hoping to capitalize off the NFL’s newest market.

It seems the Swift Effect has expanded beyond the Chiefs’ franchise as the NFL and numerous companies are attempting to maximize their profits off this new football demographic.

It will be interesting to see how the Super Bowl plays out and how the acclaimed competition and the NFL can be affected after the recent news about Patrick Mahomes Sr., Kristin Juszczyk, and Taylor Swift that has been circulating.
