The South American clinched a mix of goals and assists in the last five matches, marking this new MLS feat.

Additionally, Lionel Messi helped bring a once struggling team sitting at the bottom of the rankings last season to the top of the rankings this 2024 MLS season.

With the addition of the 36-year-old to the Miami franchise in the middle of the 2023 season, Inter Miami and fans alike had high hopes that the addition of the Argentinian sensation would significantly improve the Miami club.

Lionel Messi endured a scar tissue injury that caused him to sit out of crucial matches last season, causing Inter Miami to sit in the 14th ranking of the Eastern Conference at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old entered this 2024 season ready to compete, as he has amassed nine goals and four assists throughout his seven appearances in the first 11 matches of the MLS season.

With the addition of Messi’s former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets, the Miami franchise now finds itself sitting at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference rankings.

A once struggling club has changed its fortune thanks to Lionel Messi and his former Barcelona teammates.

New England Revolution’s record-breaking numbers

Not only did Lionel Messi make history following yesterday’s match, but the New England Revolution accomplished a new feat with a historic home-attendance record of 65,612 fans at Gillette Stadium.

This feat surpassed the club’s prior home-attendance record of 61,316 fans when the New England Revolution hosted the 2002 MLS Cup

This record-breaking attendance came just two weeks after Lionel Messi and Inter Miami competed against Sporting Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium, drawing in 72,610 fans, recording the fourth-largest crowd in MLS history.

It will be interesting to see how this MLS season plays out and how Messi’s presence can affect both the Miami franchise and the MLS as a whole. The Argentinian native has already made MLS history and boosted his club to the top of the league while drawing in thousands of fans to the matches he competes in.
