The Championship Preview: Hollywood Meets the Foxes

Tuesday, January 20, 2026

The lights are on at the STōK Cae Ras tonight as Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham prepares for one of their biggest home tests of the Championship season. Phil Parkinson’s men are looking to bounce back from a narrow 2-1 defeat to Norwich City last weekend, and the stakes couldn’t be higher as they face Leicester City.

Wrexham currently sits 10th in the table with 40 points, just three points shy of a promotion play-off spot. Meanwhile, the visiting Foxes, managed by Martí Cifuentes, are looking to correct their inconsistent away form to climb from 13th place.

Match facts and context

Wrexham: The Midweek Specialists

Phil Parkinson’s side has turned the Racecourse into a fortress for midweek fixtures. The scheduling gods seem to favor the Red Dragons, who have won 6 of their last 7 midweek games. Despite a recent stumble (losing 2-1 to Norwich, ending a 5-match winning run), their ability to grind out results on Tuesday nights has been a cornerstone of their playoff push.

Leicester City: The “New Boys” Specialists

Leicester arrive in North Wales with a specific statistical edge: They thrive against newly promoted sides. In their last 13 Championship games against such opposition, the Foxes have lost just once. However, their midweek form is dire. They remain winless in their last 10 midweek games, a drought stretching back to a Premier League win over West Ham in December 2024. Manager Martí Cifuentes will be desperate to break this curse to keep his side’s season alive.

Magazine Verdict: Expect a high-intensity battle under the lights. Wrexham has made their home a fortress this season, but Leicester’s squad depth is undeniable. A 1-1 or 2-1 result seems the most likely outcome for this mid-week thriller.
