It is not the final anyone predicted a month ago, when France sat top of the rankings and looked like the most complete side on the continent. Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty on 22 minutes after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.365scores.com\/en-us\/football\/player\/lamine-yamal-131182\">Lamine Yamal<\/a>, one day past his 19th birthday, sniffed a loose ball in the box and drew a clumsy follow-through from Lucas Digne. Pedro Porro made it two just before the hour. Unai Sim\u00f3n kept a clean sheet against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.365scores.com\/en-us\/football\/player\/kylian-mbappe-39820\">Kylian Mbapp\u00e9<\/a> and the rest of it. Two-nil flattered Les Bleus.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>De la Fuente&#8217;s hybrid 4-2-3-1 does something few Spain teams have managed: it combines the old technical smothering with genuine physicality. Rodri sets the tempo. Oyarzabal has five goals. Yamal has one, which tells you nothing at all about his influence. Perfect nine points in Group J, including a 3-0 dismissal of Algeria, and then three consecutive one-goal knockout wins: Cabo Verde, a 3-2 scramble past Egypt in Atlanta, and Switzerland beaten 3-1 in Kansas City after Juli\u00e1n \u00c1lvarez&#8217;s late intervention.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The semi-final against England followed the same script. Argentina trailed with ten minutes left. Then Messi produced two assists in seven minutes, Enzo Fern\u00e1ndez drilled one in from outside the box on 85, and Lautaro Mart\u00ednez headed the winner deep into added time. It was chaotic, it was a bit lucky, and it was entirely in keeping with a side that has spent this tournament refusing to be beaten.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Argentina are the highest-scoring team here. Messi leads the Golden Boot race with eight goals and four assists, his career total of 21 World Cup goals now an outright record, at a record sixth tournament.
