Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man tonight was Bruno Fernandes, whose hat-trick inspired Manchester United to a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad and a 5-2 aggregate victory that sets up a Europa League quarter-final with Lyon. The Portugal ace scored a second penalty early in the second half when Dorgu went to ground under a challenge from Aritz, with the decision a pretty soft one in truth. La Real's night worsened when substitute Aramburu hauled down Zirkzee and was shown a straight red card for denial of a goalscoring opportunity. Fernandes then finished brilliantly to round out his hat-trick and Dalot put the icing on the cake as United - who had a vastly superior xG of 4.02 to La Real's 1.05 - cantered into the last eight. This was undoubtedly the most complete performance of the Ruben Amorim era and if, and it remains a huge if, they can win this competition then this season will have been well and truly salvaged.
