Merino scored a late header in extra-time for Spain to help La Roja beat Euro 2024 hosts Germany at Stuttgart Arena and put them through to the semi-final. After a goalless first half, Olmo gave La Roja the lead, getting on the end of Yamal's pass from the right and finishing into the bottom-left corner. However, Germany levelled in the 88th minute through Wirtz, who fired his effort against the left post and into the net. The hosts then went close to winning it in extra-time. Wirtz flashed a shot just wide of the bottom-right corner before Fullkrug's flicked header was pushed away by Simon. However, it was La Roja who won it dramatically. Olmo's right-footed cross from the left found Merino, and he sent his header past Neuer, who couldn’t move. Fullkrug then went agonisingly close to sending the contest to penalties, but he powered his header wide of the right post. Spain created an xG of 1.51 compared to Germany's 2.01 and will face either Portugal or France in the semi-final. That's all for today, goodbye.
