Commentary
It is impossible to do that game justice, but let's give it a go. Tanaka put Leeds ahead in the first half with a goal that feels like it happened days ago now. In the second half, Castellanos headed against the post for West Ham - who had a superior xG of 2.91 to Leeds' 2.38 - and it looked over when Calvert-Lewin doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Kilman fouled Aaronson. But, during 11 remarkable additional minutes, West Ham fought back. First, Fernandes tapped home after Bowen had crashed the post, before Disasi stretched to make it 2-2 from Traore's fantastic cross. Early in extra-time, Perri made a complete hash on a long punt, and Castellanos turned his shot over the line, only the offside flag to deny him. Bowen then smashed the post again, and Pablo's follow-up found the back of the net, but he too was offisde. West Ham goalkeeper Areola went down injured right at the end of game, meaning young goalkeeper Herrick would take the gloves for the shoot-out. He made a superb start, keeping out Piroe's poor effort, but Hammers skipper Bowen was denied himself by Perri. Perri would then also save from Pablo, allowing Struijk to crash in the winning penalty and send Leeds to the semi-finals and a trip to Wembley, thanks to a 4-2 shoot-out victory. Thanks for joining us for an incredible FA Cup quarter-final tie folks, until next time!
